What we bought on our holiday Empty
PostSubject: What we bought on our holiday   What we bought on our holiday EmptyTue May 05, 2009 12:32 pm

One of the good things about going to Glasgow, as we did last week, is that we get to visit proper record shops, so we got to spend loads in Monorail and a few others.

From the top of my head, a quick list of bands whose stuff we picked up:
Wake The President
Bricolage
Belle and Sebastian (bbc sessions with the live disc)
Herman Dune
Primary 5
The Felice Brothers
Wynton Marsallis
Frank Sinatra
A comp on Track and Field

DJ would be stretching the point. We just play somes tunes we like, no mixing or anything fancy like that. So to keep it as simple as we can we use CD's or sometimes an iPod, afer all it's the music that counts not the format.

Having said that, our house is still overflowing with vinyl and I do still pick up occasional stuff on this format, The last thing being the French Navy 7".

Some good stuff in your list.

What we bought on our holiday Empty
PostSubject: Re: What we bought on our holiday   What we bought on our holiday EmptyTue May 05, 2009 8:50 pm

It really seems car boot sales are the way forward for vinyl. I am ashamed to say I'm a cd man, mainly due to the fact that at a very foolish age I sold all my vinyl (1988) when I saw the future and bought my first cds ( The Stone Roses and 3 Feet High & Rising). I got myself a cheap turn table about 4 years ago (Richer Sounds cheapy) but put it away when the first child was born (toddlers and vinyl dont mix). However, it is still sitting there, and the only vinyl I own, bar a few 7 inches are: Bob Dylan, Nashville Skyline, Paul McCartney Ram, and Stevie Wonder Innervisions, all bought on one visit to Old Hitz in Newcastle. I think I may have to renew my interest, although surely getting a decent collection together at my age is pointless when I have over 1000 cds??? I'm confused, i love vinyl but it just seems silly now. Help please.

its personal choice nick..go and look at any vinyl album, lets say for arguments sake....if your feeling sinister or push barman...first is a lovely gatefold, second is a triple vinyl,it could be anythin, even my maudlin career.....seriously put it next to the cd?it costs the same roughly...jesus...then put the big whoppin piece of plastic on a turntable an watch it spin...listen to the warmth of it...err ...err shit, its down to personal choice as i said...they do sound different...an non of that..i know every scratch business........

i bought that from skeleton records in i would say,1976 second hand and a bit battered,we were allowed to take 1 single into school and play it friday afternoon...as all friday afternoon was called "free period"were basically you could hang in 6th form block,or go and play an away from school activity like golf or fishin...anyways i used to take in no woman no cry bw kinky reggae every week...was the zippo thing only released in jamaica?

most of the ones I quited were CD's. I guess it depends on whether you're a completist...
I'm quite happy to have some on vinyl some on cd, complementing each other.
To be honest I've got quite a lot of stuff i never ever will listen to again,.. but a lot of it is about memories rather than anything else.... 1000cd's is impressive nick. I thought I had a few.... they're sprawling over the racks at the mo..
I'll never afford everything I ever want on vinyl,.. but it's fun to pick up these steals at car boots...
next car boot on sunday... i'm taking my old man... will let you know how i get on,.

being there-wilco(180gram/double)
dongs of sevotion-smog(double)
forever breathes the lonely word-felt(white promo)

i bought these yesterdee, some lad was selling his collection?or most of it...when questioned about illinoise/sufjan stevens,he said"i put it up for 8 quid as i`m not sure i want to sell it?"..he had yankee, hotel foxtrot for 4 quid, cost me a fortune from the states....chirk comes up trumps again........

all for 10 quid............

the first two are fav`s of mine,i dont know felt...so i`m about to discover them...hahaha
it has some literature in it from creation"a new l.p from lawrence and felt.this one is the masterpiece.if this l.p doesn`t break felt out of obscurity then there is no justice.this l.p is a major record company production on an independently distriputed record.can you sell it?"
