But I kinda like these covers, "Blitzkrieg Bop" and really like their track "This ole Skin"

can't says i know these guys at all.. i looked at the wiki link and even goin thru the list of singles, i don't recognize em... i see mostly uk chart positions so maybe thats why?.. so forgive my slowness but are ya being sarcastic with "uncool"? are they mainstream (gulp) in uk? i'm gonna try the covers album ya said regardless but was wonderin.. bolony

They became huge chart toppers over here. Graeme mentioned Paul Heatons first band, The Housemartins, they were a great band with two decent albums in hindsight.
The 'South were maybe regarded as a bit lightweight main stream pop, so although very popular, I think a few discerning indie hipsters would have maybe turned their nose up. Don't know if thats me being fair Graeme ? For me though, I always found their stuff more clever than the sum of its parts. I love some of the tunes, infectious pop gems, and I love the interplay call and response with the various girl singers. Some of the lyrics were quite risque - Perfect 10
