CO fans may be interested... one single and one EP released and the debut album comes out at the end of May, and an Elefant sampler CD has Kiss You In The Snow.
Elefant is streaming the whole album here:

oops - just reread... dint see the streaming part till after my post.. this one's great - i'd get it on the strength of the let it slip ep alone but some of those tracks are sweet.. i like Can't Understand myself.
they even had a few tracks show up on Christmas cds a while back (...i'm a sucker for those every Dec)..

you vinyl-heads are lucky... the school is putting a limited release red vinyl... i remember one of my dad's buds having thee best vinyl collection. he used to get those printed vinyl collector things framed on the wall... was always in awe of them.. too bad that didnt really carry over to cds - well, you can get the occasional one i guess.. best one i saw recently was Bachman-Cummings songbook... it was a record!
welp...off topic a bit i guess.... Very Happy

I've never heard The School before but if they've got red vinyl and you folks say they ain't terrible, I'll buy it. I'm all for gimmicks! Where can I pre/order?

[edit:] found the Elefant order site. They want 20 euros to ship the US! Yeah right! I'll just wait for it to be released and the bonified record stores on ebay will be likely be selling it. That's how I got the Maudlin 12" for half of what the exchange and postage direct from 4AD would have been.

Yeah, am loving Loveless Unbeliever, so many great tracks and a few are already classics to my mind. I finally saw them play last month (my first time, having been listening to MP3s and the like for it seemed like at least six months) and got the advance copy of the CD (the vinyl wasn't ready unfortunately). They also had a couple of the hard to find 7" singles for sale on the tour, dead cheap, which I snapped up...
what singles? i have the "let it slip" ep and i see that they have a single "All I Wanna Do" - what else am i missing? wouldnt wanna miss out on a b-side or anythin...

That's all I'm aware of for the previous School releases. But two other tracks were released elsewhere:
And Suddenly is on the Searching For The Now 6 compilation.
All I Wanna Do is on the Degrassi Goes Hollywood: Music From The Original Movie soundtrack.
All I Wanna Do is on the upcoming album, but I don't see And Suddenly on it. They're on Amazon in the MP3 Downloads section (search for those album titles), and possibly iTunes also. I might have to install that and see if there's any iTunes exclusives (and restore my ghost drive backup after checking... hehe.. itunes messes up all my codec tweaks).

My favorite song is Kiss You in the Snow on the Elefant Happy New Year 2008 CD. Short but goosebumpy track it is. Smile
It's sold out now, but Amazon has some copies. Search the Music section for Happy New Year 2008 and it's the first hit. It is also available on iTunes (link near the bottom-left on Elefant's page):
http://www.elefant.com/bands/the-school

(I'd post Amazon links but I think they are personalized)

just checked my iTunes - no exclusives on it.. they have the album, let it slip ep and the all i wanna do single (both tracks from the album).. an there's 3 albums by another rock band called the School...hm 2006 and 2008...think they could be forced to change their name? anyhow, album is great and i think i've got their complete catalogue covered..

i hope they do change their name. type "the school music" on google. yeah. type "the school" on any record site, even the one's that have them. grrr. imo, band names don't necessarily have to be heartstoppingly unique, but i'd be nice if they weren't so frustratingly generic. i don't know perhaps that's the point.

how about "the spelling police"?
i was going to use that for myself a while back but changed my mind.

yeah - its better when they arent so hard to find amoungst all the other crap that comes up... it still irks me about CO even...an thats not super common either! some of the names get a bit outa hand tho with trying to hard to be original and weird.. one thing the common names do do (heh heh) is impede the pirates out there.. too hard to find the music when theres 500 000 hits on google... hell, i get a ton of hits when i google my own name!

For non-Europeans who don't want to pay 20 euros to ship (that's seriously outrageous, I buy records from the UK monthly at shipping rates of 5 pounds or less), recordstore.co.uk has the album too... though with 9 pound shipping, so the vinyl works out to $36 shipped ($30 for the cd). Then Amazon has got the vinyl too, though with a release date of June 1, for $27 and free shipping ($23 for the CD, free shipping only if you bump your order up another $2). I'd suggest that for us North Americans. (what's that, like 30 CAD? The exchange rate between USD and CAD is almost 1:1 now)
