| I suppose I should probably introduce myself first. Hi, I'm Paul. There. That should suffice.
At any rate, I'm transcribing full score sheet music arrangements of various Camera Obscura songs ... I started out thinking I'd do the entire catalog, but that idea fled quickly. :) ... and by full score I mean Guitar (lead&rhythm tabs+treble staff) + Bass (tabs + bass staff) + Piano staff + Vocal (treble staff) + Lyrics, in an arrangement as close to the original songs as possible. In effect, you could pick a part from the score and play along with your LP. Obviously, since I have absolutely no copy or ownership rights to any of the songs, the finished product will be available for free via PDF. I don't think I'm stepping on any legal toes as long as I don't claim any of the work as my own... But that's for the court injunction to decide. :D In the meantime, does anybody have requests?
I plan on writing arrangements for all the A-side singles, and various tracks that I particularly like playing. So far I've completed "Happy New Year", and am in the middle of finishing "Eighties Fan". Others I would like to include are as follows, but it probably won't be all of them: Houseboat Pen And Notebook Anti-Western I Don't Do Crowds Suspended From Class Keep It Clean Number One Son Books Written For Girls Lloyd, I'm Ready... Tears For Affairs Let's Get Out Of The Country I Need All The Friends I Can Get French Navy The Sweetest Thing My Maudlin Career Honey In The Sun
I'm open to more suggestions. Just don't shout the entire catalouge at me, unless you are capable of helping with that! :) In the very very final project, I plan on recording "backing tracks" for each part featured in the score, plus percussion. Obviously, with no horn or string section included in these arrangements, there will be differences - in many cases I will transpose trumpet solos and so forth to their guitar/piano equivalent. But that's how a lot of "full score" sheet music books work. I've got a 200 page Jethro Tull compilation which is entirely for guitar(s) - they even transpose the flute parts! My arrangements will be along a similar vein.
I'll keep y'all updated with my progress on the book as I complete each song. I'll do the same on my website, with incomplete copies available there.
[Now I'm certain that after typing and announcing all this - I'll be told that such a book already exists! :D Well, I couldn't find it on Hal Leonard's Website.]

| wow! thats amazing (and ambitious)..I'd love a copy of the two you have done. I play guitar (not well mind you), my wife plays piano and we're teaching our kids to play so that'd be great to have sheet music for CO! I've found some songs online but they're mostly chords or tab and not always right. I checked your site but don't see anything but links there - my email is tony_bolony@hotmail.com i dont really have any requests other than keep em coming! thanks! tony | |

Yeah it's pretty much true... Happy New Year only uses G,D, and A .... Eighties fan uses G,D,C and Bm7. It starts to get more complex the further you get, but that's all solved by using capos. Nonetheless, they have some pretty cool fingerpicking going on. And there's some transitions played within the solos that can be translated to certain chords outside of the basic pattern. My ears aren't fantastic. If these guys were doing jazz chords I'd never be able to figure the songs out. "Forever changes" ? Is that a B-Side?

"Forever changes" ? Is that a B-Side? no doubt about it,kennys parts add so much to tracyanne`s"normal chords"...a lot like john head,to mick heads of shack........are the pentatonic or gut?prob the latter.....forever changes is by a band called love...you must know it surely..

| i must admit i never heard them either but picked up a cheapie at the local record store and its fantastic - how did they stayed under the radar? i checked them on wiki and can see they made it on several lists of top albums ever but man, i can't honestly say i ever heard a single song. i particularly like the opening tracks and "live & let live" - solid stuff! | |
