According to the Rough Trade page, it doesn't look like there's going to be a CD for "Baby You're Blind" either, the promo CD looks to be intended for DJ's/radio. Tell ya what tony, if I win the Promo CD on ebay, I'll mail it to you after I rip it to my computer. I've already preordered the 7", so I've got my "physical" version and cover art and ethical dilemma and so forth...

| Ah smeeeeeeg So I'm watching the ebay all day... there's 6 minutes left... I decide to build a new playlist to listen to this afternoon, i lose track of time, hit the ebay again. Bam! Two minutes late! Some bugger got Baby You're Blind for a measly 1.99 GBP. Ah well, there might be more. Since Rough Trade will be offerin downloads + the 7", I'm not super upset. At this point I'm just happy I've got Stills comin... But sorry about that Tony. | |

| Finally some official news about Baby You're Blind. I sent in Q&... on the website, this release answers all the questions I had. So I'm just going to assume it was posted solely for my benefit. :) - Quote :
“Baby You’re Blind” – the third God Help The Girl single will be released by Rough Trade on Monday 24th May.
The track, which is not on the album nor part of the GHTG subscription package, was recorded in Glasgow last year with Linnea Jönsson, the lead singer of Swedish band, These Dancing Days on vocals.
The 7” also features a new version of ‘A Down and Dusky Blonde’ with lead vocals by Dina Bankole.
Both tracks will also be available to buy digitally via this website, and will be bundled with the artwork and video for ‘Baby You’re Blind,’ which was filmed in Stockholm in January of this year.
http://godhelpthegirl.com/news/123/baby-you-re-blind I had my fingers crossed for a new B-side that had Catherine on lead, but no dice. This is almost as good.

| I like the vocals of the girl that does Funny Little Frog. I will need to google and find out more about her. I'd be a bit embarressed if I Fedex'd the wrong girl over Catherine seems to have more of Jazz influence in her vocal. Not a criticism in any way, I really like her vocal. The other girl seems to be...more soulful in her delivery ? ..or maybe its just that the version of FLF is more soulful ? Dunno. | |

Dunno. FLF is an odd one which to me feels out of place in its context. Not that I don't think it's a fantastic tune, just think it might have been better as JUST an EP. (Because, of course, it's already an A-side with Mary's Market on reverse) ... anyways, it's the only one with a lead female vocal that's not one of the main 3 girls (Catherire/Celia/Alex), using Brittany Stallings instead. Maybe it was recorded early (or late) in GHTG's history, I dunno, I'm just not really sure how she fits into the "story" of God Help The Girl. Maybe the elusive film will clear this up. I wonder if Stuart's still planning to do the film. But your observation about vocal styles are spot on, or at least, the same as mine. Catherine seems to take influence from the jazz greats of the 20's-50's... Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Keely Smith, etc. Brittany Stallings sounds like Aretha Franklin or Diana Ross - still very jazz oriented, but with a more blues/soul inflection. Both women have voices that in a different decade would make them amazingly famous and lots of money. Sadly the popular music climate of today does not reward people who have talent. :/ But that's alright I guess, the relatively obscure nature of the music makes me feel all the more honored to have the privilege of listening to these amazing people.....especially Catherine. ;)

Just a reminder that Baby You're Blind comes out next week. The day before The Nights Are Cold, actually. I've already preordered it from Rough Trade, but I might pick up a second copy when I hit the up record store for my Obscura fix.

| So Baby You're Blind allegedly came out yesterday......but it's not at my record store today, Rough Trade hasn't mailed me (or charged me) for my preorder yet (they charge when it's shipped), and the Matador download store still shows it as pre-order only. Anybody heard the new songs yet? | |

It sounds like modern pop, generic listening you'd hear on the Top 40 station, and very much unlike all the amazing tunes that preceded it. I haven't given up on it yet but right now I'm kind of disappointed.

| Matador has finally pushed the new tracks to their site, which includes the new/alt version of Down And Dusky Blonde. The new one has slightly different lyrics, alternate vocal takes, and completely removes all of Catherine's vocals except the harmony at the very end. (HERESY.) But despite the lack of my imaginary lady love, I don't hate the new version, and though I'm leaning towards the original, it's way too early to decide which I like better. | |

| Oh Dear ! Not so sure about this new single. Why release something completely at odds wit the album never mind not being on the damned thing ? As for B&S Blue, I might just be in Indonesia for that show Oh and by the way, Kim Moore from ZVG credited for GHTG ?? | |

I can't find her name on my dust jacket - though I'd hardly be surprised, Stuart seems to have worked with every girl in the greater Scotsland area that has chords in their throat. Tracyanne of course is in the thank you list as well

i agree - i mean, on first listen it may be stretching to standard radio pop more than the rest of the music like Paul said... i hope its not intentional.. er maybe my hopes were too high again. the completist in me still wants it tho
