i wonder who the guitarist is playing on the other tracks from primeva, could be tim? couldn`t make out?the performance seems a bit muted but the baby is due in 3 or so months not that tracyanne is thatr big yet..i streamed the album before on the npr website and at least this time they are not being too precious about it and embracing the fact that it had leaked anyways and i know weve done this loads before but for us and many like us we will buy anyways but for the free streamers the casual listeners it may twig and then they may be hooked,i will live with the album for a while before making any observations of itbecause i may have a tendancy to be flippant about it? but anyways looking forward to manchester and newcastle, anyone else on the third guitarist?i know in the past they`ve had folks they know in spain sitting in...................

Yeah I was wondering that re the extra guitarist at Prima Vera. I really like the balance between Kenny & Traceyanne. A third guitarist seems unnecessary. If you're gonna have auxillary musicians, I think for Camera O, strings or horns works better,

Enjoying the new album two. On my third listen through now, can't wait for the itunes preorder to download:)

Another fantastic album from CO!! Was streaming the album constantly today, had to stop so I can actually do some work. All the songs are great, my favorites are This Is Love, New Year's Resolution and Break It To You Gently. Can't wait for the album to be released.

Don't know who the third guitarist is. It looks like there was an enormous crowd at Primavera for the concert . CO must have a massive and loyal following in Spain.

On the Amazon MP3 store, there is bonus track named Swallows that is not in iTunes, CD, or vinyl version of the album. Will have to purchase when it becomes available.

enthusiasm for new album - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: enthusiasm for new album   enthusiasm for new album - Page 2 EmptyThu May 30, 2013 11:03 am

Ta for the info, you wouldn`t believe the big long essay i`ve just lost…fucking sick…i`ll start again..right…bastard,anyways…firstly or secondly can I just say I am in a better position to review the album slightly but will revisit this post in the future, anyways firstly great news about carey and tracyanne is right, your health is the most important thing, next,I went round the uk as kinda “road crew” with the bunnymen in 84……in the early 90`s I was also playing bass in a band,we had some good songs that is open to debate,my other 3 band members were younger than me……they wanted me to leave my job and concentrate full time on being in this band,I was getting married the year later, mortgage, kids…I decided to swerve it,to say no…an album on domino, a tour with sebadoh a couple of peel sessions…the things I missed to make this correct decision…the music changed for them….they lost their bass player but more importantly their driver..to play anywhere cost a drivers wage…..it faded away..i got married, had two boys and I am in still in that house..i missed all this for……a lot has happened in those 23 years but anyways,so be it…when camera obscura released their first two albums and were making their third(i`m not counting the EP) much was made in interviews about the fact that some of them were still holding down full time jobs and the members nervously and very slowly left their comfortable positions(or maybe not so comfortable)to give it the big push..i mean they were a little younger then, the older you get the more bills to pay…it`s a sad a fact of life(as if growing older isn`t bad enough)…as leonard cohen said”it`s the only game in town” desire lines is not the same as the last two,it`s similar in someways…and has that distinctive”camera obscura”sound..which in its way is praise, there was never gonna be a massive departure like say,the difference between the two john grant albums,or the way Richard hawleys flits about from crooner to rocker.. ..some of my friends like their earlier albums, some of my friends prefer the jari albums…..they do have a difference…tracyanne would say”you can tell its not us behind the desk”…..some will say that jari messed around a little to much..i love all four..it`s not blind following but the albums are all beautiful in the own way, hardly if any duffers…I listen to lots of music, see a lot of bands, camera obscura will never be as cool as the other folk i`m listening to right now, kurt vile,ty seagal, mikal Cronin, but they have plenty of hertitage now,10 years plus doin this…not the years of yo la tengo…but they`ve been doin this a long time, long enough to have earnt some respect….there is a new wave of music from by where I live, bill ryder jones,by the sea…and invisible legends like mick head……but to be in a band,to struggle and then see that”fantastic producer”simon cowell make someone with minimal nay nil talent earn enough cash to pay a life times bill,it makes ya sick to the stomach…in my opinion the best album and show last year was by Allo darlin, there album Europe is a pop record and is judged on merit…they have created a fine piece of work, the biggest selling album in rough trade east last year, people who watch x factor/telly will never hear it or them,it`s the way of the world... this and other reasons are why I hate, and would have little faith in the biz……….a couple of years ago the band went east they stayed 3 nights to play two brilliant shows….if the world were smaller, would camera obscura be bigger?who knows…. That`s people who take this seriously…they need to expand their fan base,it`s their job and hopefully it`ll pay the nappy bills….to be honest,I didn`t think the album would be as good as it is,I feared the worst….i have faith in the band, they are one of my favourites…and its not blind loyalty…in previous interviews, especially with their arl mate nic Harcourt…he would literally accuse the band of needing tracyanne to be going through some kinda turmoil/angst to get the words to paper….obviously her current status(happy/with child) future motherhood, the news about carey leaves her, despite the ever present comments of her mardiness/miserable…she don’t leap about any,it wouldn`t be recommened at this time anyways…she has a demur side…but on occasion she will smile, even laugh(congrats to you and tim)…I wondered about lyrical content…I feared that where would her inspiration come from? She spoke to nic about “not having to rely on emotions to get the job done”and there is the crux,it is a job…yeah,as much as they want to make great art…..that wont stop the bailiff knocking at the door…..the over reverberation that jari heavily layered has gone slightly on desire lines, cerys Mathews would like to think it’s a natural reverb …I could pick over the songs but that is for a later time, the title track has borrowed its melody somewhat from their cover of”some guys have all the luck”…there is even a touch of keane in there,of all bands?? But this would happen to any new band, fans of music cant help it….but the album is great, the songs fantastic and I am overwhelmingly surprised, maybe I shouldn`t be……but sometimes it`s a good defence mechanism to fear the worst…..this album sits next to the others easily and I can`t wait now to manchester and Newcastle of next week….the future, who knows…we`ll see……I remember like most the joy of hearing camera obscura`s tunes linked to some mainstream advertising….i also remember the shouts of "sell out" at gigs, and verbally treated with the contempt it deserved by the band, especially tracyanne….hahaha…I am a fan of the band and will continue to support them….i want the best for them and hopefully this job will fund their futures….as I mentioned earlier sooner them than me…….but hopelly the 4 star reviews may swing to 5 star…the streaming on NPR has already got them one new fan….and hopefully this is how it will progress, parenthood is easy…and nigel will tell them it is the greatest gift…more than song………………..good luck to all the band for the future..

enthusiasm for new album - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: enthusiasm for new album   enthusiasm for new album - Page 2 EmptyThu May 30, 2013 2:19 pm

wow - like some of the interviews i've read, i had to reread your novel a coupla times just to get it all! i hear what yer saying about hesitancy to get hopes up for an anticipated album... happens too often for me as well.. for this album, i really tried not to think about it and get too excited but i'd say i failed in that respect.. on the up-side of that, i am truly loving this album! i've had it streamin here at work for the past few days and had a good listen to each track.. i have my favourites thus far.. troublemaker, missed your party and 5th in line.. why these? love the fun of troublemaker - this will be fantastic live..Im really hoping they play it in Ottawa this summer.. it has great build up and would do as an opener.. 'break it to you gently' and 'do it again' are great progressions from the last 2 albums and a couple others would suit the fans who prefer the first two albums.. 'this is love' has an amazing classic feel and i can hear some of their influences thru it.. i really love what Tucker has done with them - i think its expanding their musical "vocabulary" maybe? definately will open them to new fans in particular, this side of the ocean..
i also hear yer rant about the "idol shows" out there.. i too find myself frustrated with the crap that is spewed out.. my wife watches em and occasionally, i'll admit theres some pretty damn good talent from such young faces.. but the whole process and the way its marketed and pushed on us.. some of the things those kids say too just scares me - how much theyve built that "experience" up in their heads.. honestly scary. my brother-in-law has been in a band for some years now and have slowly built up their fanbase and have now started to venture into neighbouring cities.. i hear of how they play to sometimes empty venues or to packed places who've never heard em and how tough it can be.. they plug away not in the hope of becoming millionaire musicians (well, not reallistically) but to be enjoyed and respected.. i think they'd like to be known like big star or tfc..
i know yer disparaging about the music biz in general and that this is now a "job" to them but dont lose heart in the fact that some people absolutely love their job and would keep pluggin at it till they die.. i'm in architecture and in all seriousness have worked for 2 men like that.. they live, eat, sleep and breathe the job.. even their friends are somehow tied to the industry or are clients.. not sure which even came first.. i know that if my bro-in-law makes it enough to quit his dayjob, he will love his musical occupation despite the bs of commercialism and all the other evil isms.. CO will be fine.. they have been doin this for awhile and that last tour was packed full of dates.. all appearancess are saying that they are not just enduring but thriving and growing..
here's hopin that the mighty Carey makes a full recovery and that the new parents enjoy their newest vocation as much as i've enjoyed mine..
another side note - nice to see the chatter pick up again... certainly missed it!

PostSubject: Re: enthusiasm for new album   enthusiasm for new album - Page 2 EmptySun Jun 02, 2013 8:05 am

Graeme and Tony (Happy Birthday), great stuff. Had to reread multiple times to get a full understanding. Though I was eagerly awaiting the new album, I too was skeptical that it would match the high standards of CO's previous works. Well, what can I say, the new album is fantastic!! Might be their best one. I not just saying that because I am fan. It is totally earned. My favorites are, This Is Love, New Year's Resolution, and Cri Du Coeur. This Is Love is such cool chill song, New Year's Resolution is such gorgeous song while Cri Du Coeur to me the best song in the album . All the songs are excellent. This album seems so different from their previous albums as it encompasses different musical styles.

I know Graeme you don't care much for the music business and this might turn into a job for the band. The ultimate would be to have a job that you both enjoy and be paid well. I have only had this happen to me once in my lifetime but it went away with the economic crisis. I have to agree with Tony that the band is growing and thriving musically. They have even hooked up with a grammy nominated producer. I do think they enjoy making music and it shows in their albums. For me, I have loved everyone of CO's albums. I can't say that of other artists. I can't understand why people would say you are are a "sell out" when you sell your music to be used in a commercial or movie. Have to generate revenue to pay the bills and support this musical endeavor and yourself. I am hoping this album provides the financial security that they are looking for.

Graeme, as you mentioned Allo Darlin in your post, I wanted to give kudos to this forum for recommending other artists. These are artists that I would have never discovered on my own. I have enjoyed Attic Lights, God Help The Girl, and The School but Allo Darlin was my favorite. Really enjoy listening to their two albums. Now, I have another artist to look forward too.

Congratulations to Tracyanne and her partner on becoming new parents. Tracyanne will make a wonderful mom. Prayers to Carey for a full recovery. Congratulations to Kenny for becoming a dad and condolences for his lost.

I hope the Desire Lines album expands the fanbase and provides the band success both financially and artistically.

Thanks for the links, blurecu. Nice interviews with Tracyanne & Carey. It looks like there are no interviews with the guys???

Tour started tonight at Edinburgh. Next is 5 shows in 5 days in the UK then 24 shows in 28 days in the US and Canada. Pretty brutal schedule....

Popped into my local record store last night and was pleasantly surprised to see they had vinyl copies of Desire Lines, Let;s Get Out OF This Country, and Overacheivers, Please Try Harder. So I snapped up copies of Desire ines and Lets get out  of this country
Disappointed they didn't have My Maudlin Career for good measure, but since this was the first time I'd ever seen a place with Cam O vinyl here, I had to snap those two up at least!

Have Desire Lines from iTunes and in CD to listen in the car.  Want the vinyl for the home but not available in the US until 6/18.  Love the new album.  Read some of the reviews and majority are positive but the criticism is that it sounds the same as their previous albums.  To me this album sounds totally different from their previous works.

I think the song that might break into the mainstream is Break It To You Gently.  What does everyone think?

I have listened to
it since it`s release and I mean I musta listened to it over 50 times(the cd in work that came with the vinyl) it displace the daughter album and john grant.......and nice to see a couple of posts land here about it, and the tour.....for me it is very different than the last two....it isn`t synthetic sounding everything is in the right place, there is nothing"wrong"with the jari albums but very much like with the first two, they were ready for a change and it has worked well......by all accounts the album has gone top 40 and that is on merit and shows there is a kind of movement towards"proper"artists.....break it to me gently is radio friendly and a good choice over "do it again" as a single...they are about to do a lot of groundwork regarding interviews, promotion and touring stateside and hopefully then can slip back into their"normal"lives...whatever that is.....this is a great time, ready for the big push(like September)...good luck to our band......

i agree.. ive had the album on constantly since i got it and the depth reveals itself with each listen.. i dont know if i havent absolutely loved an album of theirs when its been released but there is always a bit of a transition for me.. loving the previous album a bit more when a new one comes out and then slowly, the new release evolves into my "current" favourite.. this album is no exception.. it seems that all thats needed for the band to break into the "popular" market is time because honestly, each of the albums have been gems in their time - so why hasnt the commercial world caught on?  it appears to be just a bit more word of mouth and growing fanbase - i know i promote them to new listeners as often as i can and intend on picking up a few more copies of the album for gifts.. much like what Pete said he did (at least i think it was him).. ahh singles.. i really suck at picking them since i usually like songs that never end up singles.. some dont even make the cut for the albums and end up b-sides (world is full of strangers)..  Break It To You Gently is probably a good bet - lets see what they use in their radio spots and interviews this time.. they are stateside now so Im keeping an eye out for em.. can't wait to see them - less than a month to go now!

Thanks blurecu.  KEXP usually will post the performance on their website and youtube.  KEXP is a wonderful radio station in Seattle.  They play all types of music. They had performances from Daughter, Frightened Rabbits, Yo Lo Tengo, Laura Marling, etc on their shows.  You can check out many different artists' performances on their youtube channel kexpradio.

I reckon Troublemaker has good single potential as well. That and Do It  Again, but that's already the leading single I think?
Loving the album though. The record hasn't spent a lot of time off my turntable since I got it last week,
