Here are a few hopefully interesting facts about Biggest Bluest Hi Fi. It was recorded between 2000 and 2001 in CAVA studios in Glasgow. We would go in at weekends and record a couple of songs at a time. We produced it ourselves along with Geoff Allen engineering, with the exception of Eighties Fan which was produced by Stuart Murdoch (contrary to Wikipedia, he didn't produce the whole album). Stu...art also arranged some fine strings for us for Eighties Fan, Pen and Notebook and Anti Western. When we started recording, we didn't really have a plan to make an album, we just went in to record Eighties Fan. None of us had been in a studio before as all the songs for the first two singles and Rare UK Bird were recorded in various houses, cellars and church halls on such glamorous equipment as wobbly 4-track tape machines and eventually Digital Multi-tracks. We burnt the tarmac out the back of CAVA with a disposable barbecue one sunny summer day. Eighties Fan was the only single released from it, in June that year, it made number 8 in Peel's Festive 50 that Christmas and otherwise avoided bothering any charts. Biggest Bluest Hi Fi was the first album to be released on Glasgow Independent Label Andmoresound (named after Love's Andmoreagain). We were very proud of it when it came out, it was the best we could do at the time, and felt like a massive achievement. 10 years later we still have alot of love for it (but we are, unforunately for those of you who like it, highly unlikely to ever play Houseboat live again)
