| So the lovely (and radio friendly, already heard it gaining lots of play on 6 music and Radio 2) Honey in the sun is going to be the single. The video has been posted on a few sites but I always get a message advising that "it can't be viewed in my area"? Anyone seen it? | |

It's made up of all live footage at various concerts and festivals and has quite a number of shots of the crowds and fans dancing (if you're lucky, maybe even spot yourself!). all-in-all pretty awesome video for someone who is dying to see them live!! the link i watched is on AOL so i dont know if you can view it in the uk but here it is... http://borangutan.com/?p=3606 tony

| alright, try this link...i got it from the source but the quality isn't great as its in FLV format - I opened it with Real Player just fine. again, I hope the band won't mind but it is low quality and shouldn't hurt any sales.. http://www.zshare.net/video/6123734851e57ed5/ tony | |

i would agree that it's a bad choice - even though i like sweetest thing better, honey in the sun just "feels" like a single. honestly it doesn't even feel like it fits with the rest of the LP. there's a few guitar strums, making one think, "hmm, this sounds like its going to be a good album ender," then BANG! horn section comes out of nowhere. don't get me wrong, i love the song, but it feels like it was a leftover from LGOOTC, with some added reverb effect to fit it in with the rest of Maudlin. Seriously, what's the deal with all that reverberation/echo? It's the only complaint I have against Maudlin. it sounds like it was recorded in a bathtub. anways, i don't think the EP has been shelved. if you go to their myspace page (and i discovered this by accident), the honey in the sun track has a unique cover art that looks like it's probably the jacket for the EP. off topic, but i didn't want to start a whole new thread: i just saw the "teenager" video for the first time. laughed my head off when i saw kenny beating the ground with a stick. And once again i say: Scotland looks so much like Iowa! Come play in Iowa!!! There's lots of stupid college students that'll come to the show just to fulfill their conceited facade of being cool!

| the video is a parody of"nuts in may"unless i`m gettin mixed up....a play for today by infamous mike leigh....as regards the second single off the album,i notice on e-bay yesterday there is a 3 track promo of it on there....i can`t link(not allowed e-bay in work)...but its got a nice maudlin/swanesque cover and 3 versions of said second single...album version, radio edit and instrumental....might see what it goes for in the end.....but its odd that hmv are sayin sweetest thing single.......honey in the sun is a far better choice.....i think its a nice album ender...specially after the two tracks before......if it were a mats album h.i.t.s* woulda bin before other towns an cities...there second to last was always the up beat one.....i happy for it to be on the album..but understand what your sayin.....
*hahaha hits,i like it...good job it wern`t called travelling in the sun...............

i dunno if i agree with you on that - I know exactly what you're saying but i think the reverb works well with most of the tracks - Away With Murder and James in particular. I've heard it said that TAC has a natural reverb to her voice - i don't have an accute enough ear to tell for sure tho.. I've also heard that this album picks up right where LGOOTC left off but i can't really agree with that either as these songs to me are stronger together as an album (i know I'll start lotsa arguments with that one! ) i can't honestly pick which of the two songs i like better tho...hoping they will both be singles i guess with some cool remixes or a coversong for b-sides (love them b-sides!!) tony

| Every person to a certain extent has a natural reverberation in their voice, due to the resonation of one's skull. Typically people with a low to mid range vocal frequency have a larger resonation, as opposed to people with nasaly upper-range voices, because deeper frequencies create more vibration- it's simple physics really. And Tracyanne of course has a lot of natural reverb being in the lower-mid range; I've always thought she sounded like a Scottish, non-smoking Joni Mitchell.
Anyways, I'm particularly snobby about unnatural reverb, because it's used most often now to cover mistakes or meld layers and layers of takes together. Granted, this isn't the case with C/O, I could be wrong but it's quite obvious that the echo wasn't added in post-production. Nonetheless...! I just don't like it. :) You're right, it works very well for songs like "Away With Murder"- gives it a very live feel which seems symbolically important with that song in particular, but the whole album? Meh. Excepting a few tracks, the previous three weren't mixed like that, especially any of the 'wall of sound' songs like "Hey, Lloyd". I think "French Navy" would have been better with a dry mix. But then again, they might have tried that and thought it sounded bad. I wasn't there. :D
Pffffffffbbbbbbb. I really want to be a full-time production engineer.

We are pleased to announce that the next single from the album will be 'The Sweetest Thing'. It comes out on 7" on November 2nd and the extra tracks will include our gentle interpretation of The Boss, Mr Springsteen's, song 'Tougher Than The Rest'. Not to be missed.
sooo...looks like they decided to skip Honey in the Sun for now.. it's still my "song of the summer" tho!! tony

| Meh I love Sweetest Thing but Tougher Than The Rest is like the only song they've ever done that I really despise (I didn't like the original either). Hoping the C-side is something entirely new that we haven't heard yet. | |
