So, who else are you seeing.

Last night we went to see the excellent Dan Michaelson & The Coastguards playing The Broken Family Band (good, but much more rocky that I remember from the previous time that we saw them. It was too loud but maybe I'm too old).

Tonight we are back at the same venue to see Andrew Bird.

How about you?

Ah the wonder of ATP, it's the way festivals should be. Proper beds, chairs, kitchens and no mud.

The Vaselines were fantastic the other night. Eugene and Frances were backed by Stevie and Bob from B&S and the drummer from the 1990s.

They played nearly every one of their songs (including 2 new ones)! The crowd were a bunch of... I think you'd call them "tossers". I'd call them "doucebags". But, it was a great show, nonetheless. Not quite as good as when I saw them last year in New Jersey... but mainly just because that show had a better crowd.

here's some pictures:

Went to see The Breeders last night at King Tut's. Brilliant show I've seen them about 5 or 6 times before but this was definitely one of the best show's I've seen them do.
Kim and Kelly are like a double act onstage so funny the banter was great. Highlights for me were Tipp City, Do You Love Me Now, Huffer, Drivin On 9 and Saints.

I'm going again tonight hopefully they change the set a little I'd like to hear Doe

kelley and kim hosted the weekends all tomorrows parties in butlins minehead

another fantastic weekend it was the highlights were

wire
x
times new viking

or observations

blood red shoes(great drummer and an easy on the eye singer, were quite nervous, decent but played too long)

bon iver(stole the show last year,i didn`t get to the front so didn`t enjoy it much,i love for emma it were 5 not 3 this time, still pretty good but their sound was lost some due to big tent)

the breeders(were pretty good and seemed to be enjoyin the whole event, they did a great job of bookin great acts)

foals(didn`t watch but heard, mogsys theory of math rock=speeded up cure...sounds about right)

the frogs(highly entertaining in a slapstick way, really enjoyable set and a whoppin scary lead singer and spooky drummer)

gang of four(handled the big stage really well, great sound and throttled the songs...all the obvious REM steals were there, lifted from gang of four on the green tour, enjoyable)

giant sand(much as i love giant sand and howe gelb, didn`t take off for me,a shame really..i was well lookin forward to this)

melt banana(the first song i thought, whats this avant garde nonsense..it got faster and better, and a specials cover to boot...the crowd went mad,i tayed back this times as i nearly died at apples in stereo last time

shellac(awful)

supersuckers(they were entertainin enough but we were waitin for x)

teenage fan club(i did enjoy the hits, the new songs didn`t sound great,a song called"the fall"...yep i thought so as well, mark e smith,no it was about autumn(i dont think they call the autumn the fall in scotland?)

times new viking(for some reason i really like these, played atp a couple of times, like the fannies...great drummer an entertainin, although you dont know when the songs have started)

wire(all the people i went with enjoyed wire the most, playin stuff offa pink flag...again really sounded tight and on top of their game

x(who woulda thought it,we are watching x,they played a great mix of songs and considerin their all over 50,were amazing......billy zooms one scary bloke)

if you ever get a chance to go to atp,do...its an amazin weekend..........

one odd thing, they were selling posters, numbered from all the atp`s,one was a belle & sebastian one for £250...the bowlie weekend didn`t have atp involvement i dont think...atp was spawned from the bowlie weekender far as i know.....mr murdochs lawyer please.........

I saw Times New Viking open for Deerhunter last year. They are great! Really full sound for a trio, and I dig the drummer singing. Nothing earth-shattering, just fun, energetic songs.

deerhunter have a gotten a lot better. their early shows were a little to heavy on the gimmicks. they are focusing more on the music now and have been putting on some great shows these days.

Just wanted to say that while you lot were living it up at ATP - some of us went down to London to see Saint Etienne perform 'Foxbase Alpha' - and wonderful it was too. There was a whole feeling of 1991ness to proceedings with some great djs playing music from that era. The visuals and sound were amazing, the company superb. I just wanted to say how much I love SE and that album in particular, they are so underrated...

Saw Neil Halstead play a 500 capacity venue to 18 fans last night. He was brilliant, but clearly affected by the very poor turn out. Shame.

Seems like every time he comes around to NY, I'm out of town or already have other plans. I've seen Mojave3 many times... They're always incredible.

Shame not too many folks know about Neil... he's a really great guy.
