Cute, fun West Coast country pop in a Nancy & Lee vein - actress Zooey Deschanel and M Ward collaboration.

That's been the rumors, but I haven't seen anything confirmed. When Volume 1 came out, despite the title, I half expected it to be a one-off thing. And Zooey has been in so many movies lately, when does she find time to get in the studio?? But my fingers are crossed. Heck, it's Volume 1 that led me to Camera Obscura. (I really love Merge, was sad to see C/O leave them)

Yeah, a Volume 2 is on the cards for 2010 it would seem. I can't really imagine them touring though .. some US shows maybe but I don't see them coming to King Tut's or anything?!

KATSEN - Where Nobody Can Find Us

The album might be a bit too hardcore electro for some (though not for me!), with shades of The Normal and Cabaret Voltaire, but this 'single' is just gorgeous Casio-driven Hi-NRG electro-pop reminiscent of - and the dress is surely a clue - the mid-80s majesty of Strawberry Switchblade. Infectious!

(TLTG, are there going to be impossibly cute women in all your videos? - Ed)

OK, so today you can have three impossibly cute women for the price of one. I mean who listens to guyguyguy music? It's all Radiohead and Muse and shit like that innit?

From the album Still Night, Still Light (my second fave of the year after you know what) this is Shadows.

Note the use of a Nord Electro 2 - does this mean Carey Lander, with her Nord Electro 3, is one better?

Yeah I was turned on to Au Revoir Simone by a twitter post from Carey a month ago, and am really digging them now. Have Still Night... on the double 10" white LP. Absolute beauty in sonic form.

Ooooh, I love that song - my fave Lulu track. Have dug out my trusty Lulu compilation CD and will spin anon.

You won't regret the ARS (er, that's not a great acronym is it?) album, believe me. Didn't know there was a snobby 10" vinyl thing - I got a brown card digipak CD like the pleb I am.

... that line about "How do you thank someone who's taken you from crayons to perfume?" is still well dodgy though!

Love Loves to Love Love is brilliant as well - does Jimmy Page play guitar on that?

Thing was that I was there pretty early and there was no support act, so we must have been there at least 2 hours before Taken By Twees came on. Tracyanne didn't arrive until at least an hour after we got there by which time a few pints of Fosters had been sunk. By me, I mean, not by Tracyanne!

I can remember some Lou Reed. Or was it an obscure Velvets track? Lost of older country/Americana stuff that I dunno - probably Hank Williams or something. Rachel Sweet's B-A-B-Y was the one that really stood out for me, fucking love that song. Wish I could remember more. Oh, the demon drink.

Nice gig - very short mind you. A couple of the Open Field tracks had been quite extensively reworked into the Indian idiom of the newer East of Eden album though so you had to work at listening to them. Nothing wrong with that. Lost and Found was lovely and more like its recorded version.

Oh, I had no idea that Bergsman had grown her hair longer. It looks amazing. We need more beatnik chicks on our streets.

Song for the Day? Unashamedly obvious but it clears away the growing Christmas clutter and there are at least three moments in this record that sound like the best song ever ("Upside down and back to front!") and the jangle is definitive. That is what jangle should sound like!

Hey, Lloyd, we're ready ...

A bilingual Swedish twee classic! Reminds me of a holiday in Sweden when this was no 1 in the charts (I think!) and I fell in love with it (I also saw them play The Admiral Bar in Glasgow several years later).

English version 'No One Notices Your Brand New T-Shirt' goes like this:

Although here's a live TV rendition of the original (superior) Swedish version (No one asks where you bought your sweater):

Not quite single of the day but ... SHE AND HIM played in session in Lauren Laverne's 6music show this morning. That's a lot of gorgeousness in one room.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/lauren_laverne/

Follow the link to today's (Tuesday's) show and S&H are on at about 1hr 41m.

S&H have also announced shows in central Europe (just one per capital city pretty much) but the only UK one seems to be the Matt Groening ATP at Minehead in May (which is long sold out anyway).
