pretty and quirky tune there paul - she has a sweet voice tho and i was sure i had heard it before.. she appears on the Gigi album Maintenant called "Won't Someone Tell Me" - at least i think its the same Mirah??
anyhow - track for today is prob more "popular" than some others i've seen but i enjoy this tune lots.. especially when its a bright, sunny day outside and i'm stuck in this damp, dark dungeon...

Beach Fossils is the Insound album of the week, the CD is only $8 to get your lo-fi indie surf rock fix. ($14 ain't a bad price on the vinyl too)

The thing I like about this album is that it was recorded and mastered by one guy. I love those sorts of projects, seems to validate my own. I'm trying to stay away from the cheap allure of lo-fi though....

ok..i have a myspace account mostly to receive updates from CO and the few bands i have on there and i quite often get these friend requests from bands trying to promote themselves.. they often times arent great but occasionally one pops thru thats pretty decent.. i got this request the other day and they have some nice shimmery pop with boy-girl harmonies.. i been enjoying them anyhow..

Yes that's Christina Hendricks, in a Broken Bells video, as an android, flying around in a very Firefly-esque universe.

I'm beginning to see the appeal of having a multi-billion dollar record company fund your album.

Found this band thanks to Pandora. Love them.

For those who can actually use Pandora (I'm pretty certain it's US only), this is turning into a decent station for discovery and classics: http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh265635313624419528 (despite Pandora's slogan, I can rarely get it to consistently play music I like, I suppose my preferences don't fit very well into an algorithm)

I am really enjoying the album this video is pulled from, We All Belong - listened twice now and ordered the vinyl.
It easily sounds like it could have been recorded in the 60s, with blues rhythms that remind me of early Pink Floyd or Procol Harum (minus the experimental junk), and pop harmonies that are reminiscent of The Beatles. It has a very collaborative quality to it. I haven't listened to any of their other albums yet but I really look forward to them
(edit: other names Dr Dog reminds me of...Cream and early Clapton, Three Dog Night, Sugarloaf, Bozz Scaggs, Dr John)

If you're looking for some more music, closer to the Camera Obscura vein I found The Pipettes thanks to the same Pandora station that streamed Dr. Dog. It's like Phil Spector meets three-lead girl group. A little more grown-up than God Help The Girl but similar musically. Haven't listened to any full albums yet...will probably after I get tired of Dr Dog.

yeah - i did explore the pipettes before.. i like them ok but i kind of lost interest in them after awhile.. i enjoyed the tracks Kisses are wasted on me and the first few on the album but even tho it has short tracks, i found the album seemed long.. maybe too much of them at once - i dunno.. i do like them in mixes.. "pretty girls singing pretty songs" is a good one with them.. one of Nick's i believe..

Another one from my Pandora station. Can't find any decent videos on youtube so I'll host it myself.

From Oregon comes the now defunct band Pseudosix! Their self-titled album reminds me of the clean electric sounds of early Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler's solo work, with immaculate attention to detail and fingered guitar solos. The band has broken up but the sound's creator and brainchild has formed a new band called Ages and Ages, which currently has no releases. (You can follow them on...ick...MySpace, and Facebook, they've got one download I haven't listened to yet) Sadly, the Pseudosix album is basically bargain bin fodder hardly 3 years after its release. You can pick it up on ebay for a dollar new (I just did.)

Can't find any decent videos on youtube so this will have to do:

I've been really into this newly adopted Merge artist, Telekinesis....Seems to be a one-man lofi operation. I'd say if you like The Love Language (the first album), or maybe early Spoon, you'll probably like this guy.

Start by purchasing the RSD 7" (it's like $4!), Dirty Thing +2, then get the 2009 self-titled album.

Two days in a row! I'm on a roll.

Here's another one from the greatest Pandora station ever created. Of course, after going on Youtube to find some videos, I realized a mate had showed me this one a couple weeks ago.

One of my favorite Clientele songs being played live and unplugged.

There's another version from Merge's vimeo site which is fantastic. The drummer guy looks like he's playing that snare with some twigs.
